Pavel, on the origins of Thiamness: ‘I wanted to build a whole song on the melody I had composed for the Jah’rabi refrain. It would have been a shame not to make more out of it. I slowed it down and let it flow. I played the demo to Zeina in the Le Relais restaurant in Dakar. Straight away she loved the tune and wanted to collaborate. Zeina knew exactly what the song needed, and a few weeks later she sent us a recording of her divine voice. It was perfect. Of course, Mamadou and Abdoulaye hit the mark from the outset, as always.’
